Hey everyone,
It's been a few days since I last posted. There hasn't been a whole lot new on this end. Almost all the staff is in Elim now. John and Richelle are the only ones who haven't made it yet. So far everyone has been great. I am really excited to see how this year will go with a whole new group of teacher family!
On Wednesday we will be headed to Unalakleet for our inservice and training. New staff has to be there for 9 days. Old staff only has 4 days. So the really difficult part of this trip is that we all have to stay in a classroom together at the elementary school. Yes.. we all have to sleep in the same room. Shout out to all you other teachers out there reading this post. Can you imagine sleeping in the same room as your principal.. your boss? Yea, didn't think so. For me though, I'm really used to it. I don't think it bothers me at all to be spending all of this time with complete strangers. Its funny actually, all the things we have to go through to teach out in the bush. Gotta love it….
I'm asking those of you who read this blog to send positive thoughts my way. I'm asking because there's someone I haven't been getting along with. He's sneaky and loves to ruin your day. His name is Mr. Silver Salmon. :) Seriously, I can't catch him for the life of me. I hope in the next few days or weeks I will be able to catch a fish or two. Would be nice !
I'm bring my rods to Unalakleet also. Maybe the fishing will be good there as well.
My roommate came in today. She is really nice. I think we will get along just great this year. There is new teaching housing being built and I think it would be nice to have a place of my own.. or if we really get along as roommates I don't see why we can't live together. After all, it is nice to have someone to laugh with and cook meals with. Having support and positive relationships with your co workers really does make a difference. We joke about it because when you work in the lower 48, you have no idea what the habits of your co-workers are.. or what they had for dinner .. or when they went to bed at night. We are all so close here… you are forced to become a family of teachers. It makes working together easier for me.. but at the same time its nice to have your own space once in a while too.
I have been skyping and face timing with a lot of friends and family lately. I got to Skype with my Grandma, my brother and his girlfriend. I got to FaceTime with my friend Ashley, Evander and Zarling and Breann and my godson Brantly. Shout out to Brantly… it's his 2nd birthday today :) I was so glad to see his smiling face on camera today. Wish I had been there to give him a hug. Another shout out to Evander for finding me the link to a heated seat cover for my 4wheeler and mittens for my 4wheeler too! Now I can say I will be riding comfortably in the winter.. I might be able to handle it :)
well, I'm off to watch a movie. I've been staying up late and rising late. Need to change my habits soon though. School is just around the corner. I started working on my classroom already. Arranged the furniture and started sorting through some things. I will post more pictures soon.
Love you all,
Sammy
