Sunny Saturday

Hey all,

It was a great first FULL day back in Elim. I woke up around 7 due to the never ending amount of light that shines into my room… the parts where my curtains do not cover anyway. Listen to me complaining about light… hah! soon it will all be gone and I will cry ! :( We are currently losing 50 minutes of daylight per week. That's a lot!

So anyway, I woke up, went to the store to see if they had any boxed milk ( yes boxed milk) … (it's not that bad) and they didn't have any. I also noticed that there were three DIET COKES in the cooler there and although they expired  July 14th they sure made my day :) I sure love me some diet coke…. mmmmmmmmm

Ok, ok, I'lll continue with the day's story. After the store I continued to unpack my house and I'm happy to say that I finished unpacking all my boxes and everything is put away! After I got done cleaning I heard some knocks at my door and it was Katya, Erin, Kayla and Rossy (all family members). They were asking to visit, so of course, I said yes. We colored on paper plates with paint markers and we played with sand on my table for a bit. Mark stopped over just as they were about to leave. I visited with Mark for a while, came home, was about to take a nap and then BOOM, Mark calls me to go fishing at Iron Creek. Again, had to say yes.

This was the first time I really got to use my 4wheeler, and I don't care who makes fun of me or what kind of girl you are but seriously, some machines are hard to get used to. I got mine down now. Feeling pretty accomplished. All the kids were making fun of me. I just had to explain to them that I was not raised to only drive 4wheelers. Where I grew up they were like a vacation item. Definitely not an everyday thing. We drove to Iron Creek which is where Salmon are running like crazy. It's about half way to Moses Point where the Salmon are also running. There were some villagers out commercial fishing for silvers as well. Iron Creek runs right into the Sea and you can see the Salmon just flying through the creek as you fish. The water is so clear and the scenery around the creek is just gorgeous.

Before we arrived at the creek Mark took a "short cut" through the wilderness on our 4wheelers. I smacked into a few branches and the ride was a little more bumpy then I would have liked it to be. He totally did it on purpose ;) He said "I thought you'd enjoy that". Or something of the sort.

Mark left me to fish and fend for myself out there in the wild.. haha ! It was actually very peaceful and oddly relaxing to be doing something all alone in the middle of nowhere surrounded by mountains. After a while Dorice and Brant, (one of my students) came to fish at the creek as well. I have never been out fished by a 5 year old before… and let me tell you, it's not very pretty. I kept saying "real cheap!" ugghhhh "real bugging". That's some true eskimo talk for ya. Brant was just giggling away at my attempts to catch a humpy that I DID CATCH (by the way) and the bank was too steep so therefore my humpy just rolled right back in the water! But hey, at least I did catch something.

I road back to town after Mark and I had a little fire and sat and chatted for a bit. I laid on the rocks by the sea to stay warm from the wind. The sun was so nice and warm. I drove back to town all on my own and felt good. REALLLLLLL good!

Mark had me over for dinner too. He may get sick of me soon! We had caribou stew. Super yummy. spicy and made me warm up ! Hopefully it won't rain tomorrow so I can do more fishing and actually catch something.

Until next time,

Sammy  (learning to be eskimo)

This is me asking Mark if he wants to take a selfie while I'm taking selfless at the beach. He's such a little smartie pants.
