A great weekend

Hey everyone,

Just thought I'd write a little and post a few pictures while I can. This weekend was a lot of fun. Dianna will be leaving us tomorrow and so Friday we had a get together for her at school and at John's house for dinner. It's so nice getting all the teachers together for dinner to talk and laugh about things. It really brings your spirits up. After John's we went to Lisa's house to celebrate honey doll's birthday. Eskimo birthday parties are always a good time. Lots of sweets and treats and great conversation with people from the village. It's still feels different though, the way that everything is at a birthday party. The elders eat first and can stay at the table for as long as they like. When you come in you find a seat at the table that is open and eat a few things then get up and let someone else have a turn to eat. I like it this way though, taking turns eating... it prevents a person from over eating as well hahah. Then we just hang around and chat for a while. The houses are so small here in the village that you have to leave after a short period of time because more people enter the house for the party.. you take turns coming and going as well. It's pretty interesting. But, Eskimo birthday parties have the best food! If you have a sweet tooth you are sincerely missing out on a great experience because let me tell you, these Eskimo women can sure bake! And, once you've had blueberry delight with REAL Alaskan blueberries you'll think you have died and went to heaven.

After the birthday party I went home, relaxed and watched a movie. I slept in on Saturday, ate breakfast, helped Dianna pack some more, did two loads of laundry, went up to school to do lesson plans and work out and then came back home to take a nap. After my nap Mark and I went for a walk up to the tank farm and back.. about a mile round trip. It's always nice going for a walk at night with a friend. After our walk we had a girls night.. me, Dianna C. and Dianna S. and Rachel. We were joking about there being a Dianna #1 and a Dianna #2.. but I won't go into all that ... We had a fun night singing and being silly. Man, I was in a really great mood this weekend. Probably one of the best moods I've been in for a while. :)

This morning I crawled my butt out of bed at 9:30 because the sun was shining so bright. I stayed up until 1:00 watching Sex in the City with Dianna C. We watched it get dark out finally at about 12:10 last night. Craziness right?! After eating breakfast this morning I decided that I really wanted to go for a nice walk but everyone was too busy to go so I asked John and Richelle. They go walking up to the top of the cliffs on the road to Moses Point all the time, so I asked them to take me today. Was a GREAT walk. A very difficult walk... YES... but we made it to the top sweating and panting. The road was a little icy from the morning freeze yet but the beauty that you see up there is like nothing you have ever seen. I still can't get over it sometimes. It felt even better today because of the sunshine and warmth. The birds were out chirping and you could see many signs of spring including bear tracks. There were a few tracks that we saw along the road but they didn't look like they were from a large bear, maybe an adolescent bear.  Needless to say, it was very cool. I will post pictures from today's walk.

Hope you all enjoyed your weekend as much as I did. See you all in 4 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!
