What to do when your bored in Alaska

Hey everyone,

So, yesterday Rachel and I both woke up feeling a little sad. I woke up feeling like..."ok, what do I do on my day off.. I can't go for a walk because its raining and windy, I can't watch t.v because I don't have one and I don't want to watch netflix for the thousandth time" Anyway, I got up started cleaning the apartment, doing dishes, sweeping and deciding what to make for breakfast. Rachel got up, vacuumed the house and I decided that I was going to do something that I NEVER thought I would do in my life.......... I was going to make my own bread. hahaha

So, I put all the ingredients in a bowl, mixed it up, kneaded the dough... with the help of wonderful Rachel and put it in a bowl to rise. To my amazement ... it actually worked! I punched the dough down which was pretty cool (are you starting to see how bored I am, seeing that I get excited about punching dough) then I put it in the bread pan to rise for another 45 min. I put it in the oven and 25 mins later my house smelt like heaven and I had made BREAD!!! Of course I immediately made myself a piece with a ton of butter on it and boy was it delicious!

After that I decided I would make some cookies to take over by John's house for lunch. He made us fish and chips. It was interesting seeing as how I have never had deep fried salmon before but it was really good! His investment in a deep fryer is pleasing all of us here at the teacher compound! Anywhoo... I took a 3 hour nap yesterday, lounged around and did nothing. Which felt pretty good. Rachel, Diana and I watched a scary movie at like 11:00 and I didn't end up going to bed until 2 A.M.

Today is another lazy day. Just lounging around in sweats and probably watching some discovery channel special on netflix. Maybe go for a walk later since it has finally stopped raining. The sun has peeked out in the distance but I don't think it will stick around for long. It feels like fall here and is a whopping 48 degrees outside. You can see your breath ... IN SEPTEMBER!!!!

Here's a picture of my bread. Hope you are all having a great labor day weekend in the sunshine! Love and miss you all.
